On February 7th, governmental cybersecurity and intelligence agencies from the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand jointly declared that the Chinese government has been conducting cyber operations for an extended period, with state-affiliated hackers actively positioning themselves within IT networks to potentially launch disruptive or destructive cyberattacks on critical infrastructure within their respective nations.

The Philippine government announced on February 5th that it successfully repelled cyberattacks originating from China, aimed at the websites and email systems of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and various governmental bodies. While not directly attributing the hacking activities to any specific state, a government spokesperson informed local media that the attack’s origin was traced back to an undisclosed location within China.

Furthermore, on February 6th, Dutch intelligence agencies revealed that Chinese state-backed cyber operatives had infiltrated a Dutch military network in 2023. This marks the first instance where the Netherlands has publicly identified China as responsible for cyber espionage activities.

A government spokesperson told local media that they are not attributing hacking activities to any specific state but have traced the attack to an undisclosed location in China.
